The Rock and Roman Reigns match has been a topic of discussion and anticipation, especially in the context of WrestleMania 40. Previously, there were rumors about The Rock facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. However, this did not materialize, and fans saw The Tribal Chief compete against Cody Rhodes.
During a recent segment on The Pat McAfee Show, Dwayne Johnson, popularly known as The Rock, shed light on the situation. He mentioned that a match with Roman Reigns had been confirmed for what is often referred to as The Grandest Stage of Them All. The reason it did not proceed was due to the impending Endeavor merger. Johnson conveyed that the intention behind the match was to mark the commencement of a significant chapter post-confrontation.
“That was locked. We were doing it. We shook hands, and we hugged. Then we had a year. North Star was to do something unprecedented,” Johnson elaborated.
He further added, “We can have the match, but what can we do for the fans in the business? …WrestleMania isn’t the end but the beginning of something bigger. We got close, but we couldn’t nail what that thing was. So we put our pencils down. There’s a Merger coming up, eventually that will happen. There’s a WrestleMania in Philadelphia.”
While no official confirmation exists, Johnson’s comments hint at the possibility of the much-anticipated match taking place during WrestleMania 40. As Cody Rhodes is currently associated with WWE RAW, a rematch with Reigns seems unlikely. The potential match between The Rock and Roman Reigns remains a topic of interest, and time will reveal if it becomes a reality.
